Eyes Care - FAQ
How does acupuncture improve my vision?
Acupuncture increases blood flow to the eyes and stimulates different neurological areas of the brain.
How is acupuncture improved with herbs?
Herbal medicine can help support and improve circulation and cool down the inflammation. Antioxidants, a clean diet and stress management will help with lowering oxidation levels.
How do you measure the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment?
Some vision tests will need to be done within 2 weeks before your initial treatment to set the baseline. After the initial series of treatment (10 sessions), you will have to see your ophthalmologist to get the tests again. We will compare the differences before and after the treatment.
Is timing of treatment critical?
Yes. The earlier you catch it, the better. The longer you wait the more probability of more severe or permanent vascular and nerve damage to the macula and the retina. The sooner you get treatment the better your chances for improvement and long term preservation.
What is the likelihood of improvement in elderly patients?
High percentage of our patient base is elderly with conditions such as glaucoma, AMD, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, etc. Age doesn't seem to be much of a factor in term of rate of response.
Where do you needle?
Mainly in feet and hands. Some in the leg, arm, and forehead, but NOT into the eyes.
How many sessions does someone need to see results?
Most patients see measurable improvement within the first 10 treatments. Some advanced cases may need a second course (10 more treatments). The dormant retinal cells recharge and we see an improvement almost immediately, usually within a couple of days. The regeneration of sick and/or damaged retinal cells can take between 8 to 15 months on average.
How often should I need for treatment?
For maintenance treatments between intensive visits (which are usually 2-4 times per year), twice per month is usually sufficient.
How long will treatment last?
It can last from a few months to a few years depends on different factors such as overall health and lifestyle. The best we can do is recover some lost vision and manage the condition to the best of our ability. Best if a patient can keep up with treatments, exercises regularly, manages stress well, gets plenty of rest, takes recommended supplement or herbal medicine, and eats right.
Are there any effective eye drops?
(1) CAN-C helps keep the oxidative stress levels down and can prevent cataract formation. (2) LipoVision is very effective for dry eyes.
